VALLEY BOY, ‘I MET GOD’ DEEP DIVE

Valley Boy Performed ‘I Met God’ at the Parfait Palace. Five Years in the Making. One Take You Won’t Forget.

Some songs take a week to write. Some take a month. Some — the ones that really mean something take five years. ‘I Met God’ by Valley Boy took five years.

We’re not going to pretend to be objective about this one. James Alan the artist behind Valley Boy is someone we’ve known since high school. We played in a band together called Outliar. We performed at the Roxy together. We watched each other grow from kids with big ideas into adults who actually figured out how to make those ideas real. So when Valley Boy came to the Parfait Palace to perform ‘I Met God’ live, it wasn’t just a great performance for the show. It was personal. And that’s exactly what it felt like on camera.

Let us tell you who Valley Boy is — because if you’re sleeping on this artist, you need to wake up.

James Alan Ghaleb born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, which is where the name comes from spent the early part of his career as a songwriter and producer working behind the scenes for some of the biggest names in music: Sabrina Carpenter, Troye Sivan, Dua Lipa, Joji. His path was inspired by Frank Ocean’s journey from songwriter to artist the decision to stop giving your best ideas to other people and start putting them into the world under your own name. That’s what Valley Boy is: creative carte blanche, nothing held back.

The music he makes as Valley Boy is indie-rock and psych-pop filtered through deeply personal storytelling. It rewards repeated listens every layer reveals something new. SZA co-signed him. He toured the US and Europe in support of Jeremy Zucker and Del Water Gap. In 2024, he released HONEYMOONERS with his wife Delacey a full collaborative album written and recorded on their honeymoon in Paris. The man doesn’t slow down, and he doesn’t do anything halfway.

And then there’s ‘I Met God.’

By James Alan’s own account, this song took five years to write and you can feel every one of them in it. The song is built on an image of crying in a bathtub, waiting for someone to call back, terrified that something had happened to them the specific, suffocating fear of loving someone enough that their silence becomes unbearable. It’s the kind of lyric that doesn’t need explanation. If you’ve been there, you know. If you haven’t, the song takes you there anyway.

The live performance at the Parfait Palace captured all of it. Violin, bass, and drums the arrangement creates an intimate, expansive feeling, like the song is simultaneously very small and very large. Standing in the backyard of the Parfait Palace, performing a song five years in the making for a camera and a crew that has known him since before any of this existed, James delivered something that felt sacred.

Production Notes: Documenting Something Real

At Broken Dove Productions, we build content around authentic moments. We’ve directed brand campaigns for Fortune 500 companies and produced documentaries that have screened at major film festivals. But moments like this a deeply personal live performance captured with the same technical discipline we bring to broadcast are why we do this work. This isn’t content. This is a document. This is proof that something real happened. The same attention to audio quality, camera positioning, lighting, and editorial pacing that makes this performance land is exactly what we bring to brand content for clients who need their story told at the highest possible level.

We were there when he was playing shows in high school. We were in the band. We played the Roxy together. And we were there at the Parfait Palace when he performed a song five years in the making under string lights in 4K. We’re proud of all of it. But this one? This one hits different.
